Two victims of a recent shooting in Moreleta Park were laid to rest at the Pretoria East Cemetery on Thursday.

Hannes van der Swaard (78) and Jannie Earle (66) were shot and killed at Meadows Estate last week.

The two were victims of a shooting rampage by Danie Small last Wednesday.

The funeral started at 09:30 before family and residents of the estate held a memorial for the two men at the Gereformeerde Kerk in Waterkloofrand.

A resident, who asked not to be identified said the shooting had traumatised her.

She said her sister were about to drive out the complex when they heard the gunshots, and then after an investigation saw the two bodies laying motionless on the ground.

“My sister who stays in the estate, knew the victims and was in a state of shock,” she said.

“I remember her screaming in tears while crawling on the ground towards the two.”

The police found three assault rifles in the shooter’s house and confiscated them.

Small was found dead, presumed by his own hand.

He had gone on a shooting spree following a dispute with a neighbour.

Lyttelton spokesperson Captain Dave Miller said the guns were sent for forensic tests to check if they were ever used in another crime.

Asked if Small had shot himself, Miller only said an autopsy would confirm if the fatal wounds were self-inflicted.

He added that the investigations were ongoing and offered condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
