New school uniforms for learners

Five learners at Nellmapius Primary School received full school uniforms on Wednesday.

The generous donation was made by residents of Nellmapius, Eddie Mathiba and Hezekiel Maponya.

They were touched by two children going to school in the morning with torn clothes.

Mathiba and Maponya felt someone had to do something for these two learners and they decided to buy them school uniforms.

But their generous donation did not end there.

They even went to the school and had talks with the principal and teachers, and asked if more children desperately needed school uniforms.

The teachers identified three more children.

Mathiba and Maponya also bought them school uniforms.

“These children do not deserve to go to school like this. That’s why we decided to buy them new school uniforms to look like other school children,” said Mathiba.

Maponya said torn clothes should not be another barrier learners must overcome in order to have a positive schooling experience.

“The school uniforms will boost the children’s minds and make them look forward to go to school every day,” said Maponya.

The school uniforms included school shoes, socks, shirts, trousers and warm jerseys for winter.

School principal Richard Ngobeni thanked Mathiba and Maponya on behalf of the teachers and the school governing body.

“May God bless them and give them strength to do more, not for our school only but for schools in Nellmapius and Mamelodi.”

Mathiba said they were registering a non-profit organisation to help school children in Nellmapius with stationery and school uniforms.
