A man was expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of housebreaking and theft.

The man (22) apparently broke into a house in the CBD recently but was spotted by a woman who was still in bed.

Police spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the man allegedly gained entry into the flat shortly after the woman’s husband had gone out and left the door unlocked.

“The woman reportedly noticed a stranger walking in the flat and when the suspect saw he had been spotted, he fled.”

Mavimbela said the woman gave chase until she came across a police van patrolling the neighbourhood.

He said officers managed to catch the man and he was arrested.

A stolen cellphone was reportedly found in his possession.

Mavimbela saluted the woman for her bravery in helping the police catch the burglar.
