Silverton man killed in foiled robbery

A man was shot and killed in an attempted robbery at a home in Silverton at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Jan Sepato confirmed that three robbers ambushed a family and friends during a party in Flamink Street on Saturday to rob them of a car.

He said the men walked up to the family and guests and demanded the keys to the vehicle at gun point.

“The suspects reversed but two family members stopped them and were shot.”

He said one fatally and the other in the leg.

The shooters then fled on foot.

The injured was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A murder and attempted murder docket was open at the police station.

Kilnerpark security spokesperson Ancelize van der Kooi said the firm’s reaction officer responded to the shooting around 18:45.

“The officer found one person shot. Life med medics and police were alerted. The person was unfortunately declared dead on the scene.”
