A Re Yeng bus route effect on Ward 46

Councillor Pieter van Heerden and DA Ward 46 Tshwane recently met local residents to explain how the expansion of A Re Yeng bus service will impact them.

According to Van Heerden, the planned route will run along Atterbury Road, January Masilela Drive, and Lynnwood Road and connect Soshanguve, Akasia, Rainbow Junction, Pretoria CBD, Hatfield, Menlyn, Denneboom and Mamelodi.

How it will affect January Masilela Road:

– Existing lanes will be configured to two mixed traffic lanes in each direction

– Two bus lanes – one in each direction – will be added

– Two 2 metre space will be added for use by non-motorised transport – a cycle lane and pavement

– A bus station will be built on the corner of January Masilela and Glenwood roads.

How it will affect Lynnwood Road:

– The existing two lanes in each direction will be retained and the road median will make way to one bus lane each way- Two 2 metre space will be added for use by non-motorised transport – a cycle lane and pavement

– Bus stations will be built in Ascott Street, Jacobson Drive, Botterklapper Street and Simon Vermooten Road.

The following intersections will be upgraded:

– January Masilela Drive and Atterbury Road

– January Masilela Drive and Glenwood Road

– January Masilela Drive and Twig Street

– January Masilela Drive and Lynnwood Road

– Lynwood Road and Lizann Avenue

– Lynwood Road and Jacobson Street

– Lynwood Road and Rubida Street

The Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, Grove Shopping Centre and Denneboom Station are currently being considered as park and ride stations for the bus service. The preliminary design and detail design are both complete. Construction will commence in July and is expected to last up to 18 months.
