Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga has come out to say that he welcomes the decision by the Chief Magistrate the overturn the erroneous decision to to decline permission for the mass protest action taking place in Pretoria on Friday.

“The march has always had the support of the DA-led administration in the Capital city and we fully support the constitutional rights for South Africans to protest in a manner that is commensurate with the law.”

Msimanga said the decision to decline the march was as a result of disgruntled law enforcement agents within the SAPS and TMPD who have unduly elected to make decisions based on party political considerations.

“This is no doubt at the behest of the ANC who have suffered national embarrassment for their recent bugles  which have spilled over into the ANC in the Tshwane region who disrupted council in defiance of their constitutional obligations,” Msimanga said.

“Someone who is ill-disciplined is playing politics using their admin position to deliberately cause confusion. We have SAPS and TMPD captured by Luthuli House.”

Msimanga went on to say: “It is clear some members of the TMPD are playing politics to the detriment of the people of the Capital and SA alike.”

He added that SAPS and TMPD have a constitutional duty under section 205 of the Gatherings Act to provide the necessary resources to make sure the march poses no risk to life and limb.

“It must be made clear that there are men and women in uniform who discharge their their duty without fear, favour or prejudice and for that we thank them. It is those who seek to play politics stead of keeping our people safe who will face swift and appropriate action in due cause,” he concluded.
