Residents in the east of Pretoria can expect to be without power for the remainder of Sunday evening.

According to DA ward councillor, Pieter van Heerden, the explosion of the 132 kV lightning arrestor led to the explosion of the substation in Brookside Road around 17:00.

“Because it is a lengthy process, it is difficult to say for how long the power will still be off, but some households’ power have already come back on,” Van Heerden said.

“Municipal workers are currently at the substation to fix the arrestor.”

He also said that most parts of eastern Pretoria would be affected.

“The substation covers a very big part of the east of Pretoria,” Van Heerden said.
