Victims of an armed robbery in Equestria at the weekend have spoken out about their ordeal.

Victor Peyper and his girlfriend Nicolene Oosthuizen were ambushed by four men at a guest house on Petula Street on Saturday.

Peyper said he had gone to visit his girlfriend, who temporarily managed the guest house.

“We were sitting in the kitchen waiting for our dinner in the oven when we heard a noise from one of the rooms,” said Peyper.

“We realised something was wrong because there were no guests checked in for the evening.”

Peyper said four men barged into the kitchen.

“I put up a fight and when the one man wanted to stab me, the blade of the knife fell out.”

Peyper was overpowered and forced to the floor.

“They tied us up with cable ties.”

“They kept taking my girlfriend to open the safe and show them where the car keys were.”

Peyper said the men stole cash, wallets, electronics and jewellery and escaped in his and Oosthuizen’s cars.

“After they made off with the stolen goods Nicolene used scissors to cut off the cable ties the men used to tie her hands and my hands and feet.”

Guest house manager Adele Beukes confirmed the attack and said the men took almost everything of value.

Beukes said she immediately contacted Garsfontein police when she was notified of the robbery.

“They [police] responded within minutes,” she said.

Beukes said when police arrived, they began tracking Peyper’s vehicle.

She said police found Peyper’s Atos in Alexander and managed to arrest one of the alleged culprits on the same night.

After hours of traffic monitoring they tracked and recovered Oostuizen’s car, a Toyota Sedan, in Soweto.

“It was a traumatic experience for both Oosthuizen and her boyfriend.”

Garsfontein police Captain Ilze Jones said the arrested man was detained at Alexander police station and transported to the Garsfontein station on Tuesday.

“The suspect is in police custody and we will be investigating if he is linked or has other prior crime cases related to him,” said Jones.

She said the man would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court this week.
