Missing baby found in Ga-Rankuwa

The five-month-old baby who went missing from her home in Akasia last Wednesday, has been found unharmed.

Ntlakuso Baloyi was found in Ga-Rankuwa on Saturday, after she was allegedly abducted by her Zimbabwean nanny.

According to police information, the nanny only started working for the Baloyis last Tuesday.

CCTV footage showed the nanny leaving the complex around 06:30 with the baby on her back.

At the time, police suspected the nanny might have been on her way to Beitbridge to cross to Zimbabwe.

Ntlakuso’s mother, Thandiwe said she and her family felt helpless waiting for feedback from the police and started their own search party.

The search led them to an unknown house in Ga-Rankuwa where they found the baby and the nanny.

“We found Ntlakuso there, which is very far away from home,” said Thandiwe.

Thandiwe said the nanny was able to leave their security complex in Akasia with Ntlakuso after she allegedly asked a neighbour for the pedestrian security gate’s pin.

“The neighbour refused to give her the pin, but the following day, when [the nanny] asked for the pin again, the neighbour gave it to her.”

Thandiwe said when her seven-year old son got home from school on Wednesday and realised the nanny had left with the baby, he used the security guard’s phone to alert her.

“When my son told me there was nobody at home, I rushed home immediately and found [the nanny] had left with my baby.”

She said the nanny had been taken into police custody.

No comment was received from Akasia police at the time of going to print.
