Democratic Alliance leader Mmusi Maimane has said a motion of no confidence would be presented against Zuma in a few weeks’ time

Maimane was addressing thousands of South Africans who had gathered at the Caledonian stadium for a Freedom Movement rally in Pretoria on Thursday.

“Either the ANC chooses Zuma or the South African people,” said Maimane.

“We are here to choose South Africa, we are here to choose the constitution. Freedom is ours, not the Guptas’,” said Maimane.

He said in 1994 there was a generation of leaders who fought for freedom.

“It is time to do our part. Enough is enough. We don’t want nuclear and we don’t want corruption,” he said.

He said it was not good enough that 9 million South Africans could not find work.

“Freedom means anyone can choose any political party or union they want to be part of.”

Maimane says Freedom Day was a historic day as residents were sending a message that South Africans are united.

Freedom Movement spokesperson Catherine Constantinides said they were pleased that parties such as the UDM , Cope, the ACDP, DA, Fedusa, Outa and the UDF turned up to support the rally.

Personal assistant to late former president Nelson Mandela Zelda le Grange also attended and addressed the crowd.

“We cannot fold our arms and pretend we do not see what is going on in our country. When we keep quite we become accomplices,” said Le Grange.
