The weekend cold front didn’t stop Pretorians from taking part in the Love Run.

The race sponsored by Bidvest McCarthy Volkswagen menlyn and Audi centre menlyn was held at Hatfield Christian Church on Saturday, to give runners of all backgrounds and levels of running/walking an opportunity to run for a worthy cause.

The 67-year-old second place runner up Rina Machado said the there was no way she would have remained locked indoors while a fun race was on, despite the cold weather.

“I would have felt terrible had i stayed home and not attended this race.

Machado who has taken part in 12 comrade marathons said she was addicted to the sport.

“We live from race to race. We always looking forward to the next race.”

“The race supports the Berakah Educational Foundation as their charity,” Love Running said in a statement.

Love Running is a fully registered (with Athletics Gauteng North) road runners/walkers and trail running club and was started in partnership with the Hatfield Christian Church.

The runner’s club was created to maintain a community of runners who will have a positive influence on those around them through the way they live and run, club said.

Medals to the first 5000 finishers, and 2 500 Goodie Bags were handed out to runners across all distances proportionally and on a first come first serve basis.

A couple, Adam and Elize Herbst aged 63 and 62 respectively said running was good for maintaining a healthy body and mind.

“That’s how we keep ourselves young, the husband said.”

The 21.1km race started at 6:45am, followed by the 0km run: 7:15am; 5km Fun Run: 7:30am.
