Police descent on drug infested Brown Street

A Pretoria Central SAPS and metro police operation netted 38 people at the drug-infested Brown Street in the CBD on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola said they also targeted addicts and drug dealers.

“They were arrested within the vicinity of Brown Street and around Marabastad for various offences such as possession of drugs, driving under the influence of alcohol and drinking liquor in public,” he said.

Lamola said 91 motor vehicles and 263 people were searched during the operation.

He said 25 fines value at about R15 750, and about 16 bylaw violation notices were issued.

Lamola said those arrested would appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court next week.

Colonel Moses Dladla said the police would embark on these operations to make sure law and order were enforced in the city.
