UPDATE: Police launch manhunt for nursing student’s killers

The Hercules police have launched a manhunt after a woman was killed in Lady Selborne on Thursday. Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the 25-year-old nursing student was shot dead after five men broke into her home at Denysen Avenue around 02:00.

“The suspects allegedly broke open the front door to gain entry into the house. Family members heard the unfamiliar sounds and went to investigate.

They were shot at, and in a process, Lebogang Matlala sustained a fatal bullet wound to the upper body and died at the scene,” he said. Moloto said the men allegedly took three cell phones before fleeing on foot. ALSO READ: Manhunt for Mams murderers

“Police are appealing to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.”

A murder case was opened at the Hercules police station. The deceased’s father, Jacob Matlala earlier said Lebogang was shot at through the door. “When they entered, my wife, our three daughters, their two children and I were in the house,” said Matlala.

Matlala said nobody else was injured during the robbery. Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman, said his paramedics responded to the scene.

“It is alleged armed men broke into the residence and fired several shots,” said Dollman. Lebogang had recently written her final nursing exam and had a three-and-a-half-year-old child.

“They also stole our phones and the money I had placed in my daughter’s bedroom,” he said. Matlala said nobody else was injured during the robbery.
