An eyewitness recorded a video on her phone of an apparent attempted hijacking in front of a creche in Moreleta Park on Thursday morning.

Rekord earlier reported that police bulletproof vests, reflector jackets, a blue light and two R5 rifles were recovered in an abandoned vehicle in Tembisa on Thursday morning, shortly after it was used in the failed hijacking attempt.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said four or five men attempted to hijack the vehicle at the corner of Rubenstein and Helois roads around 08:00.

In the video bogus police officers are seen wearing police reflector vests while forcing the driver of a black BMW X5 and his passenger, a woman, out of the vehicle.

The driver then fights off the would-be hijackers (that were trying to force him inside their getaway vehicle) and he runs and shouts for help.

The woman runs towards the woman recording the video for help.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Santi Steinmann, said the eyewitness was treated for shock after the shooting.
