A Pretoria man appears to have disappeared deliberately after making a cash withdrawal from an ATM east of the city.

Leon Serfontein’s partner Daniel de Bruyn said it had been discovered that Serfontein bought a bus ticket after withdrawing the money.

“We confirmed yesterday afternoon (Thursday) that Leon went to another shopping centre and bought a bus ticket to Port Elizabeth,” said De Bruyn.

“I don’t know if he’s fleeing from his work colleagues as their have been rumoured financial disputes, but Leon purchased a bus ticket under a false name and left.”

Garsfontein police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said: “We have decided to close our investigation after we discovered this was no longer a missing persons case.”

De Bruyn said Serfontein’s colleagues now wanted money from him, adding that he feared for his safety.

“Leon emptied all our accounts in previous months and has now fled, and these people now want their money from me.”

The 30-year-old Serfontein was reported missing on Tuesday after it was confirmed he withdrew money from an ATM.
