A man (21) was airlifted in a critical condition to a hospital in Johannesburg after his motorbike collided with a vehicle on the N1 South after Atterbury Road on Friday morning.

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Braam Kruger the freeway was closed this morning to allow the helicopter to airlift the man as he had sustained major injuries.

“Traffic was brought to a standstill and the freeway had to be closed so the man could be airlifted. He is in a critical condition,” Kruger said.

He said the freeway has since been reopened about 20 minutes ago to allow free movement of traffic.

“The freeway has been reopened and traffic should return to its normal flow,” Kruger said.

No death was reported from the accident.
