Two organisations did their bit for Mandela Day on Monday by cleaning up a park in the east of Pretoria.

The HelpOut App, an online community connecting app, and security firm Bull Security armed themselves with aprons, gloves and refuse bags in an effort to clean up Great Dane Park in Garsfontein.

The HelpOut App’s marketing manager Colleen Arend said Garsfontein residents had complained about the park not being family-friendly.

“We [Bull security and the HelpOut App] felt the urge to give back to the community.”

She said a heap of rubbish, consisting mainly of broken glass and cigarette butts, was collected on Monday afternoon.

Arend thanked the Bull Security team who took time from their schedule of protecting others.

The HelpOut App is an online networking application that allows individuals access to different services.
