UPDATE: Motorcyclist killed in bus accident

A motorcyclist died when he was hit by a bus in Silverton on Wednesday.

Life Med ambulance service spokesperson Jolindi Prinsloo said that a male motorcyclist was declared dead on the scene by another ambulance service, when he was hit on the corner of James Drive and Pretoria Street.

The 58-year-old Ben Stassen was a pastor and an avid motorcyclist who worked at the Bomb Shelter church regularly.

According to an eyewitness who wants to remain anonymous, the bus skipped a red light, crashing into Stassen, killing him instantaneously. Silverton police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato confirmed that no one had been arrested after the accident.

Police are currently still investigating.
