Police arrest 217

Police recovered eight unlicensed firearms in a new year operation in Gauteng over the past two days.

In total, 217 people were arrested for; possession of unlicensed firearms, stolen property, possession of drugs and hijacked vehicles and murder.

The accused will appear in court soon.

The police thanked the community for its cooperation and the provision of the information that aided the arrests.

“Thanks to the community’s help, the police were successful during the operation,” said police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele.
