UPDATE: ‘Spiderman’ could have fled the country

Henry Edema Timaya Onoh escaped from the maximum section of Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria.


It is not yet clear whether the prison escapee, dubbed Spiderman, has fled the country or not, police said on Tuesday.

The search for Nigerian Henry Edema Timaya Onoh, who broke out of the maximum section of Kgosi Mampuru prison in Pretoria on 3 December 2016, is still ongoing.

“We do not know if Henry Edema Timaya Onoh has left South Africa or not, but we are still searching for his whereabouts in the country,” said provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.

Dlamini said the leads they were pursuing had not yielded much so far.

“We are still appealing to the community to help us find this criminal who is running away from the law.”

He said Onoh had been scheduled to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 5 December 2016.

“He was due to be sentenced for serious crimes including house robbery, rape, housebreaking and theft,” said Dlamini

It was not clear how Onoh escaped.

Dlamini said the prisoner had been linked to serious crimes as far as Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal.

“Anyone with information could call investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Louis Hoffman on 08600 10111.”

“Information that may lead to the arrest of the prisoner may be rewarded.”
