Burglars caught in the east

Two men were arrested after breaking into a house in the east of Pretoria at the weekend.

It was the quick thinking of a Hi-Risk security officer that led to the arrest of the duo in Brooklyn on Saturday around 17:00.

Hi-Risk spokesperson Arthur Crewe said their patrol officer – during a routine patrol – spotted a silver VW polo parked near one of the houses.

“Our officer went to investigate and the car sped off leaving two men inside the yard.”

Crewe said the officer chased the two who had already taken some of the valuables from the house in an attempt to load them into their car.

The response officer managed to catch the two men attempting to flee not far from the scene of the crime.

“Most of the stuff taken out of the house was recovered in the yard alongside house-breaking implements used by them,” he said.

“The men were handed over to Brooklyn police.”

Crewe said he lauded the officer for going above and beyond as the house the men targeted was not a Hi-Risk client.

Police were still to confirm the burglary.
