A 32-year-old man who is in police custody for a near-fatal-shooting in Sunnyside will on Friday appear for an identification line-up.

Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the man had also been linked with another similar incident that occurred in the same area.

The man was arrested last week for allegedly shooting a man in the face in September last year.

Mavimbela said it was reported that the suspect had confronted a victim on Robert Sobukwe Street and without a word, shot and left him for dead.

“The police are now linking the suspect with another incident that occurred back in 2015, where it was alleged that three intruders shot and wounded a 33-year-old man inside his flat at the Tambotie block in Sunnyside,” he said.

Mavimbela said the man was arrested when he was believed to have sought refuge at a flat in Muckleneuk since the beginning of February and was spotted by a member of the public, who initiated the process of alerting the police.

The suspect had first appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court last Monday on a charge of attempted murder and was remanded in police custody.

Mavimbela said the man is expected back in the Magistrate’s Court next Monday, where an additional charge of attempted murder is likely to be added to his charge sheet.
