Pta woman shot in attempted burglary

A woman was wounded in a shooting during an attempted burglary at the Grootfontein Country Estate east of Pretoria early on Sunday morning.

According to the police, armed robbers attempted to break into a house on the estate around 01:00.

Boschkop police Captain Marissa van Merwe said the family was woken by the commotion caused after the unknown number of culprits threw a brick through a bedroom window.

The husband grabbed a baseball bat in an attempt to fend off the intruders.

Van der Merwe added that the husband and wife were sleeping in different rooms because “the wife was with a baby”.

She said two shots through the window hit the woman, “one in the hip and the other in the thigh”.

She said the assailants escaped after the alarm was raised.

“Armed reaction officers responded and the woman was stabilised on the scene before she was taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.”

She said the police were investigating.
