Sunnyside police arrest 40 in 24 hours

Sunnyside police arrested 40 people during a 24-hour anti-crime operation from Monday.

Spokesperson Captain Daniel Mavimbela said the arrests were for offences such as drunken driving, assault, possession of dagga and fraud.

“Four were arrested while driving an Isuzu bakkie that was reportedly hijacked at gunpoint in Midrand on Monday.”

Mavimbela said the four were caught on the corner of Wessels and Pretorius streets following a message circulated through the police emergency radio.

He said the 42-year-old woman and three men aged between 30 and 33 were expected to face a charge of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Mavimbela said the operation was to deter criminal activity and boost police visibility.
