An ATM bomber was seriously injured when he blew up an ATM in Murrayfield in the east of Pretoria on Tuesday.

Five men targeted the ATM at a Total garage shop in Rossouw Street around 22:00.

Spokesperson Captain Ilze Jones said video footage showed one of the men sustained serious burn wounds to his upper body after the explosion.

She said the footage also showed the bleeding man being led away by his accomplices.

Five cars were used in the crime and Jones said police found one of the vehicles.

The five men reportedly forced three workers to lie on the floor before they rigged the ATM with explosives.

She said no shots were fired.

“One of the workers injured his leg in the attempt to escape.”

Jones said all men were still at large and police were investigating.
