New toll prices for Pretoria

The South African National Road Agency (Sanral)’s increased toll prices for the year 2017 have caused a stir with motorists.

Sanral came under huge scrutiny after it emerged that motorists have been paying more since 3 March to drive on the national roads.

In the new price list most of the toll gates in Pretoria have either seen an increase of 50c or R1.

The Stormvoël Plaza toll gate increased from R8 to R8.50 for light motor vehicles.

Mini buses will pay R24.50 and heavy trucks at the plaza will fork out R29.

The Zambesi plaza increased from R9.50 to R10 for light motor vehicles and mini bus drivers will part with R29 while the heavy truck driver will have to pay R35.

Pumlani plaza also saw an increase of R1 from R10 to R11 for light vehicles while mini buses pay R31 to use the national road and trucks will fork out R38.

Carousel toll gate on the other hand also increased from R49 to R50 for light motor vehicles while mini buses will have to dig deeper and pay R148 and truck drivers pay a whooping R171 at the toll gate.

Those who use the Doornpoort main line ramp will pay R13.50 for light vehicles, R39 for mini buses and R47 for heavy vehicles.

In the gazette Sanral said Gauteng motorists who comply with the e-toll regulations and pay their dues within 30 days will get more discounts.

“Once the threshold value has been reached for the class of motor vehicle in question, the user will for the remainder of that month incur no further liability for toll or e-toll transactions in respect of that motor vehicle,” stated Sanral.

“The user of that motor vehicle will receive a 100 percent discount on further e-toll transactions in that calendar month.”
