Pretoria organisation spreads the love for Tyler

Spreading the Love is appealing to the community to help raise funds to give a little boy his best shot at a normal life.

Tyler Coetzee (6) was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy when he was five months old.

Spreading the Love CEO Lizelle Oosthuizen said her nonprofit organisation helped underprivileged people who had no means to get the medical help they needed.

Tyler, who was born prematurely at 32 weeks, is from Modimole but will start school next year at the Alma School in Pretoria North, Oosthuizen said.

“The doctors diagnosed him with high blood pressure after he was in neonatal ICU for a month,” she said.

Oosthuizen said the reason for this was due to his one kidney being bigger than another.

“When he was five months old, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy due to the bleeding he suffered in utero on the left side of his brain. His motor skills and development were affected.”

She said Tyler has been undergoing physiotherapy since.

“Unfortunately [his] medical aid does not cover all the costs for the physio. Tyler needs at least two sessions a week,” she said.

“When we got the request for help to raise funds from little Tyler’s parents for the stuff he needed, I asked for assistance from the Tshwane metro police fitness unit to help raise the awareness of little Tyler’s Project and they just jumped in and got the tyre rolling.”

She said aside from his monthly needs, the boy would also need ankle foot orthosis which would cost R12 414 and a standing frame for R11 335.
