The 11th annual Cansa relay took place at the Pretoria Military sport club on Saturday afternoon.
The fundraising event celebrates cancer survivors and their caregivers.
People came in their numbers to participate and also to honour those who have been touched by the disease.

Families camped out in the afternoon before the relay where they were entertained by young singers and dancers.

Event organiser Shari Nagel said all the participants were volunteers.
“What is amazing about the event is that it’s community driven and all of the performers today are volunteering,” she said.

She said over 200 cancer survivors were expected to participate in the relay.
“The VIP lap, which will be by the  survivors, will commence at 18:00 followed by the caregivers lap. “

Later in the evening, a tribute was paid to those who lost their battle, and those still battle the disease.
