Mahube Giant Killers maintained their top spot in the Super League log standings after a resounding victory over the weekend.

They beat their rivals Sampdoria United 1-0 in a hotly contested match at Stanza Bopape sports ground on Sunday.

Given Thobakgale expertly finished Simon Ranaphoko’s pass in the 60th minute to give his side a much-needed win.

The victory saw Killers begin the second round of Super League season leading with 49 points.

United have themselves to blame for the loss as they wasted several goal-scoring opportunities.

“We missed about four clear chances to score goals in the first half,” Sampdoria United head coach Bricks Buda said.

Buda said although they loss, he was impressed with the overall performance of his side.

“My boys dominated the match in the second half. We gave Killers a run for their money.”

Buda said his team focused more on developing players for their senior team, which competes in the South African Breweries League, and less on winning matches.
