A night vigil for two women killed during a house robbery was held near the Garsfontein police station on Wednesday.

The vigil organised by crime activist Yusuf Abramjee, Garsfontein police and residents to offer sympathies to the loved ones of the murdered duo.

The murder happened on Tuesday evening in Mias Street.

Over 100 people attended the vigil.

“Our main focus was to sympathise with the victims of the double murder and to support the survivors,” said Abramjee.

“We also wanted to address wider issues of crime in Garsfontein.”

Abramjee said the time had come for ordinary citizens to become active against crime.

“We are quick to complain but do nothing.”

He said the #crimemustfall campaign needed to become a reality.

Family members of the murdered women were not present at the night vigil and Abramjee said they needed the space to mourn.

He also promised to visit them at an appropriate time.

Garsfontein Police Station commander Colonel Andrew Solomons told the mourners that action against crime would be taken.

Residents and members of the CPF lit candles as a sign of support for the bereaved family.
