They learn to drum, play guitar, read music, poetry and dance styles such as hip hop and gumboot.

They come as early as 08:00.

“The programme keeps them busy and away from the streets and away from friends who will lead them to do things that will destroy their future.”

Mgiba said she had been running the programme for some time teaching children bead work.

“The programme also runs throughout the year and during the school season, kids come in the afternoons to learn new things,” she said.

She said started the special programme because she loves working with children.

The Tshwane metro brings food for the children at the hall.

She added that she was happy the parents had allowed their children to come to the programme, and many had called her to ask her to open branches in their areas because they love what she is doing for their children.

Parent Lilly Masombuka (46) said Mgiba was turning the children’s lives around.

“She really is doing a good job to remove the kids from the streets where they will end up doing nothing but crime.”

Glen Maisela (19) said he was very happy to be learning how to play a guitar.

He invited other children to come on board and learn something different.
