Supersport United now qualify for the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup following their 5-0 home win over Barrack Young Controllers on Sunday.

Matsatsanta and rivals Sundowns will compete in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup and Champions League respectively.

Jeremy Brockie scored a hat-trick to lead the Pretoria team into the next round, having won 6-1 on aggregate.

In the past four years, both Supersport and Downs have been competing in Africa with the latter winning the competition last year.

Many soccer experts have praised the level of football produced by the two teams.

Before University of Pretoria were relegated, Pretoria used to have three teams in SA’s top league.

Arcadia Shepherds chairman Lucky Manna said the level of development was key to teams’ successes.

“We (Arcadia Shepherds) groom young players, and obviously when they are ready, they join bigger teams such as Sundowns, Tuks and Supersport.”

“In order to improve our structures, there needs to be a coalition between big teams and small teams. If we could have our games before Downs or Supersport, it will give our young boys an opportunity to travel and watch their heroes play.”
