Thugs steal R120k at local city tavern

Police are searching for four men who allegedly robbed a local tavern of R120 000 in the Pretoria CBD on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Constable Mandlakayise Zwane said the four men allegedly overpowered the owner (30) and the security guard.

“Four unknown African males entered the Meeting Place Tavern situated at the corner of Struben and Lilian Ngoyi streets in Pretoria,” said Zwane.

“It’s also alleged that two of the suspects were armed with firearms and the other two with knives, that were used to threaten and intimidate the owner and the security guard.”

Zwane added that the men allegedly took approximately R120 000 out of the tills, a bottle of whisky and a black computer box with software worth R23 000.

Police are yet to make arrests.

A docket of business robbery was opened.

Zwane urged those with information regarding the robbery can do so anonymously by contacting Pretoria Central Police on 012-353-4000, or Crime Stop line 08600-10111 or sending an SMS to 32211.
