Three house robberies curbed by police

Increased police deployments and information from the members of the community are paying off as more criminals are brought to book and weapons used in serious and violent crimes are seized by the police.

A remote control jamming device, hammers, balaclavas used during a house robbery in Midrand were confiscated at the scene where three suspects had attacked a family on Saturday.

“As the suspects were terrorising the family, police received an anonymous information and responded to the robbery in progress,” said Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, spokesperson for Gauteng province police.

He said two of the suspects were arrested while they were making an attempt to escape. One suspect was shot and wounded and three unlicensed firearms  recovered.

“A third suspect escaped with [a] stolen vehicle. Police are following leads to arrest him.”

While police were responding to a house robbery in Rietgat, north of Pretoria, they managed to arrest two suspects following a shoot-out and seized two firearms, a revolver and a pistol also on Saturday.

“A vehicle, Toyota Avanza, used during the house robbery was also impounded. The victims were not hurt.”

On the same evening residents of Pretoria north provided police with information on suspicious people.

“When police responded, they learned that the suspects were involved in a house robbery.”

He said that when confronting the fleeing suspects, a shootout between the suspects and the police ensued.

“One suspect was shot and wounded. Police recovered all the stolen goods in a Toyota Avanza.”

“These arrests and seizures are through community support and cooperation through anonymous information. Through our continuous deployments, information is followed swiftly to isolate criminal gangs and we will make sure that they are taken out of the communities for a long time”, said the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General, Deliwe de Lange.
