Four suspects thought they had escaped from the long arm of the Silverton police on Wednesday, but the men in blue proved to be too clever for them.

The suspects were driving in a Golf GTI with a Mpumalanga registration when the police tried to stop them. They fled the scene and disappeared into Meyerspark.

A fast car chase ensued in the streets of Silverton after police tried to stop the suspicious car with the four male passengers, Silverton police spokesman captain, Jan Sepato said.

He said the vehicle disappeared in Meyerspark but the police did not give up and searched for it and called for back up.

“The Tshwane Central cluster joined the hunt for the suspects,” he said.

“The suspects then changed their registration number to that of Limpopo and two of the passengers got off the car but the police were not fooled.

“We (police) spotted the car again with two passengers and this time with a different registration number but our officers had seen their faces and cornered them,” he said.

He said they found car tracker jamming devices on the suspects and car and house breaking tools and six number plates on them and discovered that the car was stolen.

“After catching the two suspects we did not give up looking for the other two and some of our police officers walked through the area and arrested the suspects in Silverton as they were posing as window shoppers. They were arrested,” said Sepato.

“We caught them while they were disguised as shoppers and found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on them,” he said.

Sepato said the four males three from Eldorado Park in Johannesburg and one from Mamelodi will soon appear soon before the Pretoria Magistrate Court in connection with charges of stolen motor vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearm and possession of house breaking tools.
