What’s new at the movies

The Hunter's Prayer (Age restriction TBA; Nu Metro Menlyn Park only)

The latest animated masterpiece from Disney-PIXAR, along with a raucous night out for the ladies and a tense action thriller, are the three new movies starting to show at Nu Metro Menlyn Park and Parkview in Pretoria this week. The new movies already start showing from Thursday, 15 June – ahead of the Youth day public holiday on Friday.

Cars 3 (PG; Nu Metro Menlyn Park and Parkview VIP)

Disney-PIXAR animation studios are renowned for their spectacular, acclaimed work on films such as Toy Story, Finding Dory and The Incredibles. The third film in the Cars series, featuring automobiles that come alive with a mind of their own, is no exception. Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win — plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage! Cars 3 will be showing in 3D – an animated action-adventure for the whole family to enjoy on the Big Screen.

Rough Night (16 D L S; Nu Metro Menlyn Park and Parkview VIP)

The hangover will be the least of their problems… Five best friends (Scarlett Johansson, Jillian Bell, Zoë Kravitz, Ilana Glazer, Kate McKinnon) reunite 10 years after college for a wild bachelorette weekend in Miami. Their hard partying takes a hilariously dark turn when they accidentally kill a male stripper. Amidst the craziness of trying to figure out what to do, their night takes some hilariously unexpected turns, bringing them closer together when it matters most. This laugh-out-loud comedy is described by some as the female version of the popular Hangover movies, but with a few significant twists. The cast ensures that the comedy is maintained at peak levels at all times. This is one of those movies best enjoyed with your BFF for a fun-filled night out!

The Hunter’s Prayer (Nu Metro Menlyn Park only)

This suspenseful new action thriller stars Sam Worthington in a film by visionary director Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Breakdown). When an assassin’s conscience gets the better of him, he finds himself defying orders and instead protecting the young woman he was hired to kill. With both now marked for death, their only hope of survival is to form an uneasy alliance as they flee across Europe, hunted by powerful forces who will stop at nothing to kill them both. As the hitman drags the weight of his sins behind him and the young woman is forced to grow up in spite of her situation, both come to understand that even if they survive, their souls may not. The Hunter’s Prayer is based on For the Dogs (the novel) by Kevin Wignall.
