Six nabbed over liquor law violations

Six people have been arrested over liquor law violations and four liquor outlets shut down in the city centre.

Pretoria police spokesperson Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola said the six were arrested during a joint operation by police and the Gauteng Liquor Board.

“Three illegal liquor outlets and one legal one were shut down for dealing in liquor without licenses and six suspects were arrested for non-compliance with the act.”

Lamola said two illegal gambling machines and illegal liquor worth

R160 000 were seized from the illegal outlets.

“All the six suspects have paid a fine and were released. The liquor has been taken to the Liquor Exhibit store for safekeeping and will be kept up until the court case is finalised,” Lamola said.

Pretoria Central station commander Brigadier Rienette Pieterse said the operation was conducted as a response to complaints from the public regarding operations by these outlets.

“As the police we are not going to tolerate such behaviour which will lead our area to be a crime zone, ” said Pieterse.
