East dog attack victim still in hospital

The victim of a recent dog attack in the east of Pretoria is still recovering in the Steve Biko academic hospital.

Elizabeth Mahlangu, a domestic worker in Garsfontein, was on her way to a bus stop on Garsfontein Road when two Rottweilers pounced on her.

Mahlangu’s employer, Cyril Blom, said the wound on her left arm was still infected.

“She is currently on a drip to stop the infection. Once her arm heals she will undergo a skin graft operation. Her other wounds have been closed up.”

According to Mahlangu she was walking past a driveway where a car had just entered. when two dogs came running and attacked her, biting her legs and arms.

The dogs also attacked their owner when she tried to get them off Mahlangu. The tip of her right pinkie was bitten off.

A neighbour who saw the episode and rushed to her aid was also bitten in the thigh.

“If it was not for him, I would have been dead,” she said.
