Minister Muthambi to lunch with homeless on Mandela day

Minister Faith Muthambi will spend her Mandela day with the homeless in the Pretoria CBD, her office had announced.

The minister of public service and administration will hand over donated clothes and food parcels and also share a meal with the homeless.

The department said she would also discuss and listen to the problems the homeless faced.

She would be accompanied by officials of the Tshwane Leadership Foundation (TLF), The National School of Government, Unisa and Export Credit Insurance Corporation and 2014 SA Idols winner Vincent Bones.

“The organisations will tour the seven different sites managed and run by TLF in the city that house destitute community, in an effort to understand the day to day life of the homeless in the city.

“The minister will end her tour in Burger’s Park where she will be joined by about 150 homeless people for lunch,” the department said on Sunday.

The department was planning future events after Mandela day to better understand the problems the homeless faced in the Pretoria CBD.

Mandela day, commemorated on the late statesman’s birthday, 18 July, is dedicated to community service in honour of the 67 years he spent serving the country.
