NEWSFLASH: Robbers target the east of Pretoria

-Robbers appear to have been targeting the east of Pretoria the past week, says a security company.

Accon Security responding officer Roy Rademeyer said there had been a robbery and two attempted ones in Garsfontein and Fearie Glen in less than a week.

He said the latest one happened at 13:50 on Saturday.

“Two suspects approached the premises in Tom Burke Street. One remained in the car while the other broke down the entrance gate,” he said.

“Luckily the owner quickly noticed something was wrong. He chased the suspect with a gholf club.”

Rademeyer said the culprits fled the scene and no one was injured.

A second robbery attempt was on Friday morning in Liesl Street, Garsfontein.

“We received a call around 06:50, but the suspects had fled the scene before we arrived,” he said.

“The suspects did not manage to take anything.They fled towards Alsatian Drive.”

He said no one was injured.

Tuesday saw a robbery in Trevor Street.

“The suspects escaped with cellphones and a laptop,” he said.

“The home owners were also hijacked, but their vehicle was recovered near Fearie Glen.”

The security company urged residents to be vigilant and to join their Whatsapp groups.

“The robberies mostly occur between 05:00 to 08:00 in the morning,” he said.

“Residents should make sure everything is locked and please do not sleep with open windows.”
