Young tennis players who enroll for this year’s Tuks Open tennis tournament will be given opportunity to test themselves against an experienced international player and Davis Cup star.

Tucker Vorster, a veteran of more than 10 Davis Cup tournaments, who has been playing against the world’s best for more than a decade, will be in action in this local tournament, which will be played at the end of October and during the first weekend of November.

Vorster has recently returned to South Africa after more than 10 years abroad. He is currently working on a contractual basis for Tennis SA, where he assists the national federation with several special projects.

This Pretoria Boys’ High School old boy told Rekord that he had entered the Tuks Open for various reasons. First of all, he had very good memories of the tournament where he seriously competed on the tennis court for the first time as a junior. He would like to play at the club again at the end of his career and at the same time do it as a favour for one of his mentors, Kobus Botha. Botha is the technical director at Tuks Tennis.

Vorster revealed that, although he played in the Tuks Open since his junior days, he could never win the title and he would like to write the title behind his name before he finally retired as a player.

Besides his personal aspirations, Vorster also said he would like to help young players and if he can do it by challenging them to test themselves in the Tuks Open, he would feel he has achieved something.

The Tuks Open takes place on the weekends of 28 to 29 October and 4 to 5 November. The deadline for players who still want to enter the tournament is Saturday 14 October. It is a senior tournament and players must be older than 14 to enter. They can still register online at www.tennissa.co.za before the deadline.

Botha told Rekord they are thankful for the good sponsorships they have received from Armscor and Dunlop for the tournament and there will be good prize money at stake to the winners.
