UPDATE: Bronkhorstspruit farmers back in court

Two Bronkhorstspruit farmers accused of assaulting and pointing a firearm at a 10-year-old girl are expected to appear in court today.

Johannes Potgieter (33) and Hendrick Dumas (48) are facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm and pointing a firearm.

The court is expected to hear a report from a ballistics expert who will explain whether the firearms handed in were discharged and how many shots were fired.

A psychologist dealing with the girl is also expected to take the stand.

In her statement, the girl detailed how she was cuffed to a tree, beaten up and held at gunpoint.

On Tuesday morning community members protested outside the Bronkhorstspruit magistrate’s court demanding that the pair be denied bail.

A resident said he was not allowed to go to work in Pretoria as protesters blocked all of the entryways to the town. He said the situation was somewhat violent and that they were forced to go to court.
