Three robbers who snatched about R300 000 at Silverlakes mall on Tuesday morning after a shootout with security guards are still at large, police said.

Police said on Wednesday members of the public in the east of Pretoria must watch out for a grey Mercedes Benz in which the men fled. It is riddled with bullet holes.

Boschkop police spokesperson Larrisa van der Merwe said police were still looking for the three men who carried out the heist and headed in the Mamelodi direction.

“Police are still investigating, and we urge residents in the Mamelodi area to alert the police if they spot the Mercedes Benz which we believe would be easy to identify because of bullet holes.”

A shootout between SBV security guards and the three ensued at the Silverlakes mall after they had robbed one of the wholesalers of R300 000 that was due for collection by the guards.

Police said the men accosted SBV security staff on their way out and started firing shots.

“One of the security guards was shot in the leg.”

She said they had the footage but would not be able to make it public because the investigation was still ongoing.

High-Risk security spokesperson Gareth Pahl said the injured guard was treated on the scene before being transported to hospital.

Police confirmed that a case of cash robbery was opened.
