Pretoria Technical High School congratulated its top achievers in last year’s matric exams.

Deputy principal Linda Cilliers told Rekord this week that Keitumetse Kungoane, Tumisang Malefane, Sphiwe Masela and Tumiso Thokwane had achieved great results.

The Hatfield-based school offers subjects in the technical field.

“All our learners were compelled to take mathematics/mathematical literacy and physical sciences/business studies last year and did exceptionally well,” she said.

She commended learners on their hard work and dedication in 2017.

They are:

– Keitumetse Kungoane scored 84 percent in engineering graphics and design

– Tumisang Malefane got 88 percent for mechanical technology, 83 percent for mathematics and 92 percent for physical sciences

– Sphiwe Masela got 80 percent for life orientation and 84 percent for physical sciences

– Tumiso Thokwane scored 81 percent in life orientation

“I had to find a balance between working hard and working smart,” said Thokwane.

“I had to allocate my study hours for each subject strategically, based on how much I still needed to learn in a subject, how good I was with the subject and how important the subject was for me.”

He said spent three hours a day during the week and five hours a day on weekends and holidays.

Thokwane wants to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering at Wits university.

Masela wants to to do a degree in culinary science at the University of Pretoria.

“I am absolutely passionate about food and I want to give the consumer the best food experience,” said Masela.
