NOTICE: Hammanskraal residents face water supply interruption

The Temba Water Purification Plant will be shut down from Thursday, 1 February at 08:00 to Friday, 2 February at 08:00 in order to carry out maintenance work.

Parts of Hammanskraal will be hit by water shortages and interruptions this week.

The Tshwane metro said on Tuesday the Temba water purification plant would shut down from Thursday 08:00 to Friday 08:00 for maintenance work.

This would allow the metro to work on bulk water connections, corrosion protection repairs, welding repairs and the removal of a temporary bypass pipeline at the raw water pump station.

Also on the to-do list were the installation of fittings on the bulk water supply, the connection of electricity cables to new transformers and the connection of new electricity cables for the new plant.

Areas to be affected included Dilopye, New Eersterus, Temba, Babelegi Industries, Marokolong, Ramotse, Majaneng, Mandela Village, Sekampaneng and Hammanskraal.

“During the shutdown roaming, water tankers will supply residents with water,” said the metro.

Utility services MMC Darryl Moss said the upgrading was about revitalising, stabilising and delivering service.

“We are closer to the realisation of ensuring that thousands of households have access to clean water and sanitation services,” he said.

“Because of this project, people will have clean water.”

He said there would be additional on-site storage and an existing raw water pipeline would be replaced.

“We made modifications to Kudube dam, upgrading the raw water and high-lift pump stations,” he said.

The new and existing plants were also to be integrated, with both plants operating on the same system.
