The ANC said it will put forward a motion of no confidence in parliament against President Jacob Zuma.

This was seen as an indication that Zuma refused to resign as president, but this was dismissed by ANC treasurer general Paul Mashatile.

“We are going to proceed tomorrow with a motion of no confidence.”

“This must happen so we can elect Cyril Ramaphosa as president so he can proceed with the state of the nations address before the budget vote next week,” said Mashatile.

Mashatile said the ANC could not wait any longer.

ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu said the party would amend the motion already tabled by the EFF, making it a joint motion.

They were speaking at a briefing held after the ANC’s parliamentary caucus met this morning.

The office of the presidency has yet to make an official statement on the briefing.
