East residents blame metro for unhygienic conditions

The residents of Mamelodi East have blamed the Tshwane metro for the spike in illegal dumpsites in the area.

Resident Ronald Makgoka said collecting waste on time and supplying larger bins would improve the residents’ living conditions.

He said residents dumped at street corners when their bins were not collected on time.

“It’s all poor service delivery really,” said Makgoka.

The area needs urgent attention because it smells bad and our homes are always full of flies.

“As residents, we don’t see a point of paying for services as we are not being served like other areas.”

He said litter behind his home spread to his gate.

“We have been complaining since 2004 and the metro officials just make empty promises,” he said.

“Our main wish as residents is for the metro to send health inspectors to come and witness this breach of human rights,” said Makgoka.

The metro had not yet responded by the time of going to print.
