East cemetery woes to be addressed

The Tshwane metro has promised to fix the problems at the Pretoria east cemetery.

Complaints had poured in for more than a year about the poor maintenance of the cemetery.

Dr Rolanda Prinsloo, whose daughter was buried there, said berms created over graves, random digging of graves left uncovered, sunken in graves that have remained unfilled and rows of graves not in alignment needed attention.

The berms are the small pathways between and around the graves.

Some graves have caved in due to the recent heavy rains in Pretoria and needed to be refilled.

Tshwane region 6 urban management director Billy Sepuru said the complaints would be addressed.

“We will construct a single-line berm to accommodate the graves that fall out of the scope so that the graves align.”

Sunken graves would be topped up with soil regularly but work will only start after the rainy season had passed.
