Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga has during the metro’s monthly clean-up campaign, Tshwelopele, urged residents not to litter.

Msimanga said residents should use of dustbins to dispose of trash instead of the ground.

“Besides using dustbins to separate recyclable waste from non-recyclables, you ought to stop littering around,” he said last week,

Msimanga said residents should ensure garbage bins were emptied timely and trash disposed of appropriately.

He said keeping the city clean was not really a choice but a moral responsibility.

Msimanga said littering destroyed the environment and the city’s monuments.

“Thus, we should keep our city clean, so that our future generations can also have access to all of these monuments,” he said.

“Tourists have a strong inclination [to visit] cleaner and hygienic destinations. Keeping your city clean can mean more tourists and better standards of living for the locals,” he said.

“Throwing waste products such as plastic cans, wrappers and many more things in the parks, gardens and other places can degrade the environment,” he said.
