Pensioners not robbed outside our office – Sassa

Sassa has denied claims that pensioners were robbed outside its Pretorius Street office every day while waiting in the queue.

It was alleged criminals robbed the elderly of their pension while SA social security agency staff and the police watched.

“Please note that Sassa has recently not received any complaints or report of incidents of beneficiaries being robbed while standing in the queue this week. The last incident that we are aware of was in April,” said Gauteng agency spokesperson Nandi Mosia.

She said the beneficiary was advised to report the incident to the police.

“Sporadic incidents of muggings have been reported over the years. SAPS was informed about these and the arrangement was that regular patrols would be conducted,” she said.

Mosia urged victims to report a robbery to the agency.
